Fed: Channel seven to televise Queen Mother funeral

MELBOURNE, April 3 AAP - Channel Seven will telecast the Queen Mother's funeral nextTuesday commercial free.

The farewell procession through the streets of London this Friday would also be screenedas a one-hour special, Channel Seven spokeswoman Michelle Flynn said today.

Hosted by news presenter Anne Fullwood, a two-hour delayed coverage of the Queen Mother'scoffin as it is taken in procession from St James Palace to Westminster Hall will screenfrom 10.50pm (AEST) to 11.50pm on Friday.

The funeral service on Tuesday April 9 will be broadcast from 10.30pm to 11.30pm, delayedby two-and-a-half hours.

Ms Flynn said the coverage would include the full requiem service at Westminster Abbeyfollowed by the procession as it made its way to Windsor for a burial service.

A Channel Nine spokeswoman said a decision on the coverage would be made tomorrow morning,while Ten and the ABC said no decision had been confirmed.

SBS said it would not broadcast live coverage of the funeral.

Meanwhile, goldsmith Stuart Devlin has been asked to commission a special Australiancoin to commemorate the life of The Queen Mother.

The Royal Australian Mint said today Mr Devlin, who designed Australia's original decimalcurrency and the Sydney Olympic's commemorative coins, would design the silver coin witha face value of $5.

The design is expected to feature an effigy of the Queen Mother as a young woman andis planned for release in the middle of this year.
