Vic: Wheelchair bound man thrown on to train tracks

MELBOURNE, Aug 25 AAP - A wheelchair-bound man has been hospitalised in a serious condition
after being pushed from a platform on to tracks at Melbourn'e busy Flinders Street railway
station.

Police said the 24-year-old disabled man suffered a severely fractured leg, head injuries
and a dislocated thumb from the incident about 4.35pm at the city centre railway station.

A man threw the victim and his wheelchair headfirst from platform number four.

Bystanders rushed along the tracks to alert the driver of an oncoming train to stop
before it reached the man.

Witnesses have told police the attacker jumped onto the tracks and fled.

The victim was taken to St Vincent's Hospital where he will undergo surgery.

Police Senior-constable Wayne Wilson tonight said a motive was yet to be established
for the attack.
