QLD: State lifts meat inspection fees
BRISBANE, April 4 AAP - Government fees paid by Queensland meat processors will rise 8 per
cent to cover the cost of guaranteed food safety, Primary Industries Minister Henry Palaszczuk
said today.
Larger processors would pay $2,500 per audit while small butcher shops would pay $100, he
said.
For operators who attained and maintained the highest quality assurance standard, no other
fees were payable.
Mr Palaszczuk said the inspections met the quality assurance program established under
Queensland's Meat Act 1993, which had been allowed to run down under the Borbidge coalition.
"Queensland is a leader in the field of meat safety and the standards have been followed by
New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia," he said.
